SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota corn production reached
653 million bushels in 2011, an increase of 15 percent from 2010.
The U.S. Agriculture Department says corn for grain production
across the country is estimated at 12.36 billion bushels, down 0.7
percent from 2010.
The average yield in South Dakota, at 132 bushels per acre, was
down 3 bushels from last year. The nationwide average grain yield
is estimated at 147.2 bushels per acre, down 5.6 bushels from 2010.
South Dakota soybean production in 2011 totaled just over 150
million bushels, down 4 percent from last year's production, with
an average yield of 37 bushels per acre.
