BULLETS 15’S…The Brookings Bullets 15’s opened their season Wednesday with two losses at Mitchell.  Scores were 8-2 and 12-2.  Brookings will play Saturday at Sioux Falls East.

ORU BASEBALL…Oral Roberts University has earned a No. 4 seed and will face top seed Baylor on Friday in the Waco Regional of the 2012 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at Baylor Ballpark in Waco, Texas.
    Second-seeded Dallas Baptist and third-seeded UT-Arlington will face off on the other side of the double-elimination bracket, with their game scheduled for 1 p.m. CT on Friday.
    ORU (37-23) earned their Regional bid by capturing last week’s Summit League Championship in Tulsa, the program’s 15th consecutive conference title. Summit League Player of the Year Jared Schlehuber clubbed a game-winning two-run homer in Saturday’s 4-3 clinching victory, while League Pitcher of the Year and Tournament MVP Drew Bowen pitched 2.1 innings of relief to earn his first career save.
    The Golden Eagles are no stranger to Baylor (44-14), having faced the Bears three times to open the 2012 campaign. Baylor swept that February series and went on to win 29 of their 32 home games during the regular season. The Bears are the No. 4 overall seed in the 64-team tournament and enter the competition on a 22-game home winning streak.

STURGIS FIGHTER DIES…Funeral services are scheduled for a Sturgis man who died one week after competing in a mixed martial arts competition at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.
    Dustin Jenson, 26, was participating in full-contact fights at a RingWars event May 18 when he tapped out — a signal to end the fight. According to his mother-in-law, Jensen then watched the next two fights before going to the locker room area, where he suffered a seizure.
    Schieman said medical personnel determined that Jenson had increased pressure on his brain and put him in a medically induced coma before surgery was performed to relieve pressure. He was declared dead May 24 and was taken off life support the next day.
    Jenson, was participating in only his fifth fight since taking up the sport less than a year ago.

T’WOLVES SCHEDULE…The Minnesota Timberwolves will host two preseason games at Target Center this October.
The team announced Tuesday it will face the Chicago Bulls on Oct. 13, followed by an exhibition against a professional club from Israel on Oct. 16.
    This is the first time in the franchise's 24-year history the Wolves will host an international team. They traveled to Turkey for a game in 2007, but this is the first matchup in Minnesota against a foreign club. Maccabi Bazan Haifa, which plays in the Israeli Basketball Super League, will also visit the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 11. The team, formed in 1954, is owned by American  businessman Jeffrey Rosen.
    The remainder of the Wolves' preseason slate and the 2012-13 regular season schedule will be unveiled in the coming months.

HOIBERG DEAL…Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg's successful second season landed him a new contract with a hefty raise.
    The school announced Tuesday that the former Cyclones star and longtime NBA player has agreed to an eight-year deal worth an average of $1.5 million a year that runs through 2021.
    Iowa State said terms of the contract will be released at a later date, but this deal will replace the five-year, $4.5 million deal Hoiberg signed when he took over in April 2010.
    Hoiberg, who grew up in Ames and earned the nickname "The Mayor" for his exploits playing for the Cyclones in the mid-90s, will nearly double his annual salary of roughly $800,000.

HARD KNOCKS…The Miami Dolphins will appear on "Hard Knocks" this summer.
    HBO announced Tuesday that the Dolphins would be the newest subject of its popular reality series documenting NFL training camps. The seventh season premieres Aug. 7, with four more one-hour episodes airing on subsequent Tuesdays.
    Coming off a 6-10 season, Miami has a new coach in Joe Philbin.
    "Hard Knocks" was not produced last year because of the NFL lockout. In 2010, the Dolphins' AFC East rivals, the New York Jets, were the subject of the show, making coach Rex Ryan a reality star.
