SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The former executive director of the in-house child care center at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Sioux Falls is accused of stealing at least $30,000 from the facility.
A civil lawsuit filed against Dawn Walker says she stole the money during her tenure with the Lil Troopers Learning Center from December 2000 through this past March. It accuses her of misappropriating funds as well as failing to pay bills and taxes, prompting the Internal Revenue Service to file a lien against the child care.
A telephone listing for Walker was not in service on Thursday. She has not been charged criminally.
Center attorney Dave Nadolski says that the exact amount of the alleged theft is unknown because auditors are still going through financial records.
