Mission man gets more than 5 years for assault

MISSION, S.D. (AP) - A 23-year-old Mission man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for his role in a July 2010 beating.

U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Clayton Paul High Pipe Jr. received the sentence this week after being convicted of one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

The guilty plea stems from a July 2010 incident when, while walking in Mission, the victim was randomly attacked by the defendant and two other individuals. As a result of the attack, the victim suffered two fractures to his jaw, multiple bruises and abrasions to his arms and legs, and had to have an endotracheal tube placed due to a compromised airway.

High Pipe was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal to begin serving his sentence.
