Signs to mark spots where 3 died in crashes

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Signs will mark the spots where three people died in traffic crashes in South Dakota last year.

A sign that says "think" marks the spot where 51-year-old Terry Brown of Rapid City was struck and killed last December by an alleged drunken driver. Family members say that the sign will help them remember and also send a message about the consequences of drinking and driving.

On Thursday, friends and family of 56-year-old Gwen Michalek of Chamberlain and 61-year-old Ellen Wright of Lower Brule were dedicating a sign in their memory. The women were driving in separate vehicles that went into a washout on a tribal highway between Reliance and Lower Brule and were carried away in rushing water after torrential rains a year ago.
