RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A Rapid City man who forced his way into another man's home and shot him with the victim's own gun has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the assault.
26-year-old Duane Adair had been drinking when he took a hammer and knife with him to the victim's apartment in February
A prosecutor says Adair intended to threaten and scare the 27-year-old victim. When the victim reached for a gun, Adair grabbed the gun and it discharged. The bullet grazed the victim's side.
Adair would not be eligible for parole until he serves 50 percent of his sentence.
