WAGNER, S.D. (AP) - A 12-year-old child has been taken into custody in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl in rural South Dakota.
The Charles Mix County Sheriff's Office says the 12-year-old was taken into custody Thursday after the toddler's death was reported to authorities on Wednesday.
The Sheriff's Office says the the names of the 12-year-old and 2-year-old are not being released at this time.
The death occurred at a rural residence in Wagner. A 911 call from the residence reported that the child was not breathing.
The Sheriff's Office is working with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation on the case. A DCI spokeswoman did not immediately return a message to The Associated Press seeking comment.
