WAGNER, S.D. (AP) - Prosecutors are considering filing charges against two adults in the case of a 2-year-old girl whose body was recovered from a rural Wagner home on the Fourth of July.
Charles Mix County State's Attorney Pam Hein says the two adults who live in the home are in custody on unrelated charges. She did not identify them.
The South Dakota Legislature passed a law earlier this year that makes it a felony for a parent or guardian to knowingly fail to report a dead child within six hours. Hein says a "significant" number of hours passed before police were notified of the rural Wagner death.
A 12-year-old boy is in custody in the girl's death. Authorities have not identified either child.
