WAGNER, S.D. (AP) - Attorney General Marty Jackley and Charles Mix County States Attorney Pam Hein say two people have been arrested for abuse or cruelty to a minor in connection to the death of a 2-year old child in Wagner earlier this month.
Jackley and Hein say in a statement that 21-year-old Taylor Cournoyer and 28-year-old Laurie Cournoyer also face once count each of failure to notify law enforcement of death of child.
South Dakota Legislators passed a new law this year modeled after Florida's "Caylee's Law." Two-year-old Caylee Anthony died but wasn't reported missing until 31 days after she vanished in 2008 in Orlando.
Authorities have deemed the girl's death a homicide. They have taken an 11-year-old male cousin of the girl into custody but haven't charged him.
