BOMBERS GRAY…The Brookings Bombers Gray has picked up a doubleheader.  They’ll face White Thursday – game times will be at 4 and 6pm. 

BANDITS BASEBALL…The Brookings Bandits closed out their regular season with a doubleheader split with Yankton.  Brookings won the opener 6-4, but dropped the nightcap 11-4.  In the second game, Landon Busch had two of the Bandits’ six hits.  Carter Roach allowed ten runs on 15 hits over five and one-third innings.
    Brookings will face Watertown Tuesday afternoon at four in Huron, to open regional play.

VOLGA BASEBALL…Volga Post 114 ended their season Saturday with an 8-3 loss to Clark-Willow Lake. Volga had lost to Groton 14-2 in their opening game and then defeated Kingsbury County 13-0 late Friday night.
     Groton race out to a 6-0 lead in the third before Volga was able to scratch across their only two runs of the game. Trevor Lundin led off the inning with a single and scored on a sac fly from Austin Chase. Jordan Nelson followed with a walk and a stolen base and came around to score on a Tyson DeGroot single. Nelson, Lundin, and DeGroot each had a single to lead Volga. Groton out hit Volga 10-3. Jordan Nelson started for Volga lasting four innings. Brenndon Lebert pitched the fifth.
    Groton was led by Matt Thorson’s two hits including a double and three run homer. Jamie Jorgensen pitched a complete game to earn the win for Groton.

    Volga broke out for ten runs in the top of the sixth inning against Kingsbury County. Tyson DeGroot struck out six batters allowing only an infield single. Volga got three hits from Brenndon Lebert and two more from Jordan Nelson and Dan Mitchell. Kingsbury County walked eight Volga batters. Andrew Foley had the lone hit for Kingsbury County.

    Clark-Willow Lake scored four runs on five hits with two outs in the first inning. Volga was able to close the gap to 4-2 after six innings. Clark-Willow Lake then added three runs in the top of the seventh to slam the door shut.
    Volga got two hits from Layne Lucas and Trevor Lundin. Jordan Nelson and Tyson DeGroot each added a double. Austin Chase added a single. Jordan Nelson threw the first seven innings taking the loss. Layne Lucas pitched the final two innings. All but one position player for Clark-Willow Lake had at least one hit. Jeff McGraw had four hits including a double to lead Clark-Willow Lake.

   Groton built a big lead early and held off a late rally to claim the Region 6B American Legion baseball tournament with a 15-14 win over Redfield Sunday.  The teams combined for 26 hits in the contest, which featured multiple big innings and four lead changes.  

VOLGA TEENERS... The Volga 13-14 VFW Teener baseball team has qualified for what's believed to be the program's first-ever trip to a state tournament.  The squad won the regional championship over the weekend.
    Volga will be one of eight teams in the state tournament, which begins Friday in Mt. Vernon.  Pairings will be announced.

TEENER BASEBALL…The Pierre Green Sox swept the doubleheader with the Brookings Bullets 15’s Saturday, winning the opener 15-9 and the second contest 20-0.  Will Bordewyk had two run-scoring singles for Brookings.
    The Bullets won the first game against the Pierre White Sox 13-7, but he Whites won by a convincing 17-3 margin in the night cap.

U12 BASEBALL…The Brookings U12 baseball teams each went 2-1 at the state VFW tournament in Sioux Falls – but neither qualified for Sunday’s single elimination tournament.
   The U12 minors defeated the Brandon 11’s 7-5…dropped a 15-13, seven-inning affair to the Sioux Falls Diamond Dawgs…and defeated the Aberdeen Smitty’s Reds 11-1.
   The U12 majors defeated the Mitchell Thunder 10-4…defeated Watertown 11-4, but lost to the Rapid City Rage 16-9.

JACKS START… Big 12 Conference officials announced Friday that kickoff for the South Dakota State-Kansas football game Sept. 1 in Lawrence, Kan., has been set for 6 p.m.
    Television details are still being finalized.

STATE-JUNIOR GOLF…The SDGA state adult-junior golf tournament was held Sunday in Yankton.  The champions:
11-Under: Mike and Jonah Swartz, Rapid City, 84
12-13:  Mike and Will Grevlos, Sioux Falls, 73
14-15:  Dean and Greg Koehn, Brandon, 77; Brent and Taylor Steen, Brookings, T6th, 89
16-18:  Ben and Ian Rinken, Sioux Falls, 72;  Brett and Alex Steen, Brookings, 4th, 74

STATE OPEN TENNIS… Rapid City Stevens grads and siblings Whitney and Billy Paluch each captured a singles championship at the South Dakota Open tennis tourney.
    On the women's side, Whitney's title came was against Chicago's Veronika Philippova 6-4, 7-6 (4).  Billy's matchup with Christopher Clayton took a bit longer, but in the end the result was the same. After a rough few sets. Billy defeated Clayton 6-7 (0), 7-5, 6-1.

USD VB… The University of South Dakota volleyball program moving its home matches to a new wooden court on the second level of the DakotaDome in Vermillion. The Coyotes have always played their matches on a Sport Court (made of durable plastic that came in sections and had to be put together like a puzzle) on top of the football field in the dome.
    Starting this upcoming season, the Coyotes will play upstairs on the west end of the dome, in a more intimate setting next to the weight room. According to head coach Matt Houk, the area will seat up to 500 people, and will also include a new scoreboard, a new scorer’s table and a new sound system.

MILLER LEAVES MISSOURI… Missouri men's basketball assistant coach Ryan Miller is leaving after just two months on the job.
   Miller will become the associate head coach at Auburn. Miller, a Mitchell native and former Northern State player, worked with Tigers' head coach Tony Barbee as the video coordinator at Memphis while Barbee was an assistant under John Calipari.
   Miller spent the past five seasons with Steve Alford at New Mexico. He left in May to join Frank Haith's staff, but sources told CBSSports.com that Calipari pushed hard for Miller to join Barbee down in Auburn, where he would also receive a significant pay raise.
