WAGNER, S.D. (AP) - The embattled police chief in the southeast South Dakota city of Wagner has resigned.
Forty-four-year-old Jim Chaney was accused in late July of trying to cover up his girlfriend's methamphetamine use by hiding her used needles in his office. He was charged with a misdemeanor and suspended from his job. He has pleaded not guilty.
The City Council accepted Chaney's resignation on Monday. New Chief Tim Simonsen says Wagner officers are dedicated to fighting drug problems in the area.
