BHS FB… Two 2-0 teams battle Friday night when Brandon Valley visits Brookings – game time at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium is 7:00. You’ll hear the game at 6:30 on KCountry 102.
Brookings utilized four scoring plays of 20 yards or more to shut out Mitchell last week – still, head coach Lee Schmidt says the Bobcats weren’t consistent offensively. 97626 :23 “finish off drives”.
Schmidt says the Lynx throw the ball well, and have a good running game. 97627 :29 “for something big”.
Schmidt says the Bobcats have to be a bit selfish and look out for themselves. 97628 :22 “see more consistency”.
Through two games, the Bobcats have run the ball almost twice as much as they’ve thrown.
BLIZZARD…The Brookings Blizzard will play their first North American Hockey League game in the city Friday night – hosting the Bismarck Bobcats in an 8:00pm exhibition game at Larson Ice Center.
Blizzard marketing director Riley Courtright says the teams are long-standing rivals in the Central Division: 97631 :31 “reload each season”.
Courtright says both coaches will be evaluating players to settle on final rosters that will open the regular season next weekend.
He says the Blizzard will play a structured, defense-oriented system. 97632 :32 “and do everything”.
Besides the hockey, Courtright says there will be excitement for fans off the ice. 97633 :16 “in the community”.
Fans will have the chance to meet the Blizzard players Saturday at Choco Latte in the Calla Plaza, and again Sunday at Runnings, and the Children’s Museum of South Dakota.
BHS XC…The Brookings cross country teams run their first big meet of the year Friday at the Faribault, Minnesota invitational.
Eighteen teams are involved – Bobcat head coach Chris Gruenhagen says it’s a high-class boys’ field. 97634 :33 “between those two”.
And much the same for the girls: 97635 :36 “couple of weeks”.
The Bobcats get back to in-state competition next week, at the Huron Invitational.
SDSU FB…South Dakota State visits Southeast Louisiana Saturday night in non-conference football – the pre-game show on the Ranch AM910 starts at 6:00, with kickoff at seven.
The Jacks fell to Kansas last week, while the Lions lost to Missouri. Jacks coach John Stiegelemeier says Southeast plays what he calls “communist football”. 97636 :21 “six…who knows”.
Stiegelmeier says the Lions’ team speed is impressive. 97637 :30 “and move ‘em”.
SDSU had two punts blocked and threw four interceptions against Kansas – without those, Stiegelmeier says the game may have ended differently.
