SUMMIT VB POW… South Dakota State's Kaitlin Klingemann and Oakland's Alli Kirk were named The Summit League's Offensive and Defensive Volleyball Players of the Week.
Klingemann opened the week with a .500 clip and 10 kills in a sweep of North Dakota. She then went on to tally 18 kills and a .366 hitting percentage in a five-set win over Green Bay and 15 kills and a .414 hitting percentage against Bradley. For the week, Klingemann posted a .407 clip with 43 kills, averaging 3.31 kills per set, 10 blocks, five service aces and 54.0 points (4.2 per set).
Kirk recorded double-digit dig totals in all four matches on the week. She had her best performance of 33 digs in a five-set victory over Cleveland State to give Oakland the tournament crown. On the week, Kirk recorded 95 digs, averaging 6.33 per set, 14 assists, three service aces and two kills.

JACKS HOF…A longtime NFL offensive lineman who was selected to the Pro Bowl on two occasions and won two Super Bowls highlights this year's class of inductees into South Dakota State University's Jackrabbit Hall of Fame.
Adam Timmerman played 12 years in the NFL, with the Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Rams. He won a Super Bowl crown with each team. He was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 1999 and 2001 seasons.
Timmerman joins distance runner Joel Brandt, swimmer Brad Reynolds, basketball and softball player Karla Stevenson, and wrestler Don Trapp in the 2012 Hall of Fame class.
Induction ceremonies are scheduled Oct. 13.

FREDERICKSON TO HOF…Northern State head women’s basketball coach Curt Fredrickson is one of 13 new inductees into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame.
Fredrickson will be formally inducted into the Women’s Basketball Coach Category of the Hall of Fame on March 5 in Sioux City, Iowa, as part of the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championship festivities.
Fredrickson is entering his 34th season at the helm of the NSU program in 2012-13 and is no stranger to success. During his tenure, the Wolves have played in five NAIA national tournaments, winning the NAIA II national title in 1991-92 and 1993-94, finishing second in 1992-93, claiming third in 1980-81, and finishing among the final eight teams in 1994-95. Fredrickson’s Wolves have also collected two district basketball championships and two regional crowns.

MARATHON DQ…A man who appeared to win the Sioux Falls Marathon was disqualified for running the wrong course, but he said he was not trying to cheat.
Olok Nykew registered for the full marathon and crossed the finish line first Sunday. But his fast time raised eyebrows, and race officials determined that he had run only the half-marathon.
The two races followed separate but sometimes overlapping routes through South Dakota's largest city before ending at the same finish line. Nykew and other runners of the full marathon wore black identification numbers, while half-marathoners wore red numbers.
The winner was Justin Gillette, 29, of Goshen, Ind., with a time of two hours, 30 minutes and 10 seconds. Kelly Brinkman, 31, of Bloomington, Minn., was the top women's finisher at 2:50:38. Both times set race records.
More than 2,200 runners took part in the marathon, half-marathon and 5-kilometer run.

NEBRASKA DEFENSE…Bo Pelini still felt awful Monday, two days after Nebraska's defensive meltdown at UCLA.
Nebraska's coach says, "I've been sick to my stomach since that game."
The Cornhuskers (1-1) surrendered 653 yards — the second-most in program history — in the 36-30 loss that dropped them out of the Top 25.
Now they must prepare to face another spread offense when Arkansas State (1-1) visits Saturday. The Sun Belt Conference's Red Wolves feature one of the nation's top dual-threat quarterbacks in Ryan Aplin, who has opened the season with two straight 300-yard passing days.
Pelini looks at the game as additional preparation for Big Ten opponents that run the spread, like Ohio State and Northwestern.
