SDSU PRACTICE FACILITY…The South Dakota State University Foundation has received a $5 million gift in the form of a challenge match that pushes total commitments to the proposed Indoor Practice and Human Performance Center to $24.3 million. The total could approach $30 million if the challenge is fully met.
Foundation C-E-O Steve Erpenbach says the match puts SDSU in better position for Board of Regents approval. 97628 :08 “for the facility.

Erpenbach says potential donors were contacting the foundation within minutes of the challenge match announcement. He says time is tight. 97630 :13 “to the regents”.
SDSU plans to begin construction in the spring of 2013, subject to reaching its fundraising goal and getting final approval through the South Dakota Board of Regents. The planned facility would include an eight-lane, 300-meter track and 100 yards of synthetic turf, along with space for sports medicine, athletic training, strength and conditioning, physical therapy, hydrotherapy, expanded academic advising, observation rooms and office facilities.
Sanford Health announced a $10 million leadership gift in August to launch the fundraising effort. At the same time, SDSU announced another $8 million in leadership gifts from donors that wished to remain anonymous.
WITZMANN HONORED…South Dakota State left tackle Bryan Witzmann has been named Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in the Jackrabbits' victory at 22nd-ranked Indiana State.
Witzmann anchored an offensive line that paved the way for the Jackrabbits to rush for 297 yards. He received a championship grade of 1.81 as SDSU averaged 6.6 yards per carry and rolled up 348 yards of total offense en route to its third consecutive win.
Witzmann is the second Jackrabbit to earn the weekly offensive lineman award this season.
BLIZZARD…The Brookings Blizzard has placed more players with collegiate programs over the past nine years than any other North American Hockey League franchise.
Over sixty players have gone on to college programs – 34 of those in Division I. A number of those have made professional teams. Notable names include Nardo Nagtzaam (Mercyhurst University), Paul LaDue (University of North Dakota & 2012 L.A. Kings draft pick), Rylan Galiardi (Minnesota State, Mankato Captain & current AHL Player), and Josh Meyers (University of Minnesota Duluth & AHL, ECHL and Italian League).
Head coach Cory Laylin says it’s a reflection of how the franchise evaluates, and develops, talent. 97621 :28 “of that statistic”.
League commissioner Mark Frankenfeld says the franchise has been a leader for the NAHL both on and off the ice and especially with their commitment to place the players in college.
McPHERSON… Olympic Taekwondo bronze medalist Paige McPherson says her recent trip to the 2012 games was an unforgettable experience.
The Sturgis native says her experience in London was surreal, and the warm welcome the athletes received was incredible.

McPherson says the opening ceremony was an opportunity to see the other countries' athletes and gave her the chance to meet some other Team USA members like beach volleyball gold medalist Misty May Trainor and basketball medalist LeBron James.

McPherson will participate in the World Cup in two months and the World Championships next year. As for the Rio Olympics in four years, she says she will continue to train, and hope for the best.
