SDSU BB TIX…Single-game tickets for all South Dakota State men's and women's home basketball games for the upcoming 2012-13 season are now on sale at the Jackrabbit Ticket Office.
Both teams will face challenging non-conference schedules featuring teams from some of the premier basketball conferences in the nation.
The defending Summit League tournament-champion men's team is slated to play 13 regular season games at Frost Arena, starting with a Nov. 13 matchup with Tennessee State. The Jackrabbits also will host an exhibition game versus Black Hills State as part of a doubleheader with the women's team on Nov. 1.
The Jackrabbit women's team begins play Oct. 28 with an exhibition game against Minnesota-Crookston. SDSU opens its home regular season slate Nov. 14 against Creighton (Neb.).
The schedule also features a pair of doubleheaders: Nov. 28 when the women host Marquette and the men take on North Dakota, as well as Dec. 1 when the Jackrabbit women host Middle Tennessee and the men face Summit League opponent Nebraska-Omaha.
A limited number of reserved season tickets are also available starting at $225. Season tickets include all men’s and women’s regular season games in Frost Arena.
Another ticketing option is a men's or women's mini-pack that includes general admission seating for every home game for $140 — a savings of more than $45 per package.
Ticket orders can be placed online at JackrabbitTickets.com or by calling 1-866-GO JACKS during normal weekday business hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
70’s-PLUS BASEBALL…The South Dakota 70+ Rushmores defeated the Sacramento Solons 18-12 to open play in the World Series.
South Dakota trailed 7-0 going into the fourth, but nine singles and a double plated eight runs. South Dakota got three in the seventh and after nine the score was knotted at 11.
In the tenth the Rushmores utilized five hits and a pair of walks to score seven more.
Lew Ingalls had four singles, Howie Bich, and Joe Bonacquista each had two singles and a double. Nick Pashulka and Phil Trooien each went 2-4. Doug Stormo, Ev Bradshaw and Kent Rolfingeach had two hits. Jerry Kluess of Brookings had a base hit.
PELINI-NEBRASKA…The collective eyebrows of Nebraska fans were raised when coach Bo Pelini publicly challenged his Cornhuskers to go 6-0 in their remaining regular-season games.
It's not that the goal is too ambitious — even though no Nebraska team since 2001 has won six straight in the same season. No doubt, Big Red backers hungry for a first conference championship in 13 years hope it can be accomplished.
What caught people off guard is that Pelini issued his challenge moments after the humiliating 25-point loss at Ohio State, and it seemed to run counter to the coaching profession's one-game-at-a-time mantra.
Nine days later, Pelini wasn't backing off. The Huskers (4-2, 1-1 Big Ten), coming off a bye week, start their mission Saturday at Northwestern.
