MVFC TEAMS RANKED…Four league teams are ranked in top-25 polls this week, while three others are receiving votes. In six of 10 weeks this year, five Missouri Valley Football teams have been ranked in the Top 25. That’s only happened 25 times in the league’s 28-year history.
North Dakota State is first, and Illinois State is 15th in both the Sports Network and coaches’ polls. South Dakota State is 16th in the Sports Network and 20th in the coaches poll. Indiana State is 18th in the Sports Network and 21st in the coaches ranking.
Youngstown State, Southern Illinois and Northern Iowa each received votes in the polls.
STATE –U RIVALRY…An announcement regarding a new series between South Dakota State and South Dakota will be made Wednesday morning in Sioux Falls.
The brand-new, significant collegiate competition will establish a formal head-to-head athletic and academic challenge between the Jackrabbits and the Coyotes. The all-encompassing competition will commence this 2012-13 year.
School officials will make the formal announcement Wednesday morning at the state corn utilization council office in Sioux Falls. Feeding South Dakota will also be involved.

SUMMIT VB POW…South Dakota's Kendall Kritenbrink and North Dakota State's Andrea Henning were named The Summit League's Offensive and Defensive Volleyball Players of the Week.
Kritenbrink helped USD to sweeps over SDSU and NDSU. She recorded 16 kills against the Jackrabbits and topped that with a .300 clip and 17 kills vs. the Bison. On the week, Kritenbrink tallied 33 kills, averaging 5.50 per set, 16 digs, four blocks, a service ace, an assist and 36.5 points (6.1 per set).
Henning posted double-digit digs in back-to-back matches and being errorless on serve receive in 35 attempts. The senior defensive specialist tallied 27 digs in a four-set win over Kansas City and 18 digs vs. South Dakota. For the week, Henning recorded 45 digs, averaging 6.43 per set, better than the league-best average this season, and seven assists.
YOUTH WRESTLING…A Brookings youth wrestling parents meeting will be held at the high school cafeteria Thursday evening at 6:45pm. For additional information, check out out website at www.brookingsyouthwrestling.com.
The program is open to boys and girls up to age 14. There is a $35 registration fee that includes Brookings Youth wrestling workout shorts and T-shirt. An AAU card will also be required of all participants. The AAU card provides accidental insurance and allows the athlete to participate in all sanctioned AAU events for the year.
The head coach will be Rex Lyon, a Sturgis graduate and former SDSU wrestler. Assistant will be former SDSU wrestler Nick Mart, five-time state high school champ Alex Kocer, and four-time state placewinner Jordan Redmond. BHS head coach Scott Miller, and parent coaches Chad Lamer, Aaron Aure and Josh Klinkhammer will also be involved.
