SDSU WBB…The Summit League-leading South Dakota State women’s basketball team opens its first conference road trip Thursday night at Oakland. Saturday, the Jacks are at Fort Wayne.

Johnston says Oakland’s a balanced team. 97632 :24 “capable of doing”.
You’ll hear both games on B93.7 FM, starting Thursday evening at 5:00pm.
EIDE AWARD…South Dakota State University women's basketball player Ashley Eide has been selected as Summit League Female Athlete of the Month for her performance during the month of December.
Eide helped lead the Jackrabbits to a 6-1 record during December, while averaging 17.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. She tied a career high with 27 points and set new single-game marks with 13 rebounds and seven three-pointers in a win at Georgetown on Dec. 21. She topped the 20-mark on two other occasions, scoring 25 points in a Dec. 18 win over Delaware State and tallying 20 in the Summit League opener Dec. 30 against North Dakota State.
Eide shot 54 percent (46-of-86) from the field in the seven games, including 47 percent (22-of-47) from three-point range. She also averaged three assists and 1.3 steals in 28.1 minutes per game.
League-leading SDSU's only loss in December came at nationally ranked Penn State on Dec. 16, a game in which Eide scored a team-high 14 points.
Eide is the third Jackrabbit student-athlete to receive a Summit League Athlete of the Month award this academic year. Western Illinois basketball player Terell Parks was the December honoree on the men's side.
WATERTOWN FB… Watertown High School’s football program moved closer to staying in Class 11AA Wednesday even though no action was taken on an appeal filed by the Watertown School Board during a South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors meeting at Pierre.
In December, the Watertown School Board filed an appeal against playing in the new Class 11AAA division that will be adopted this fall — essentially dividing the current Class 11AA into AAA and AA divisions beginning with the 2013 season.
Under the proposed alignments for the divisions, Watertown was slated to be among eight teams in the new Class 11AAA division based on enrollment.
Sioux Falls O’Gorman, however, has announced plans to petition up from 11AA and 11AAA. That opened the door for one of the proposed Class 11AAA schools to petition down. Brandon Valley, the smallest of proposed eight Class 11AAA teams based on ADM (Average Daily Membership in grades 9-11), has announced it will stay put — leaving the ball in Watertown’s court.
Watertown is expected to petition to move down to Class 11AA, a petition that activities director Steve Moore expects to be quickly accepted by the SDHSAA. According to the SDHSAA, the 10 schools that will play in Class 11AA are Watertown; Yankton; Brookings; Pierre; Mitchell; Douglas; Huron; Sturgis; Harrisburg; and Spearfish.
MINES BB… The South Dakota School of Mines men’s basketball team is off to a 11-6 start, but two of its key players have now run out of eligibility.
After a two-year hiatus, A.J. Trennepohl (Lubbock, Texas) returned to finish out his basketball career, but had only one semester left. Trennepohl was in the Hardrocker program for four years, prior to getting married and moving to Brookings. He and wife Ashley moved back to Rapid City for his senior season.
North Dakota State transfer Caleb Shockman (LaMoure, N.D.) came into this season with three semesters of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-7-inch junior will return to the court for the entire 2013-14 Hardrocker campaign.
