Sioux Falls firm to add jobs after deal with pharmaceutical giant

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A Sioux Falls company plans to add 50 jobs to its workforce after being hired by biopharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca.

MedVantx Pharmacy Services opened in 2002 as a home-delivery pharmacy with four employees under the name AmeriPharm.

But a relationship with Pfizer in 2005 connected the company with its first patient assistance program, which provides income-qualified patients with drugs for free. The Sioux Falls office has since grown to 112 employees.

General manager Ron Bertsch says British-Swedish multinational AstraZeneca generates 4,500 prescriptions every day. And by July, those prescriptions will be packaged and shipped from Sioux Falls.
