Yankton murder suspect to undergo 2nd psychiatric evaluation

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - A murder suspect in Yankton will undergo a second psychiatric evaluation.

Fifty-seven-year-old Darwin Jans is accused in the death last fall of 59-year-old Larry Goodman. Authorities say Jans assaulted Goodman last September and Goodwin died weeks later in a hospital.

Both men were clients in a program that assists people with mental illnesses.

Jans has undergone a psychiatric evaluation at the South Dakota Human Services Center but his attorney said she wants a second doctor to evaluate her client. Judge Glen Eng on Monday agreed to the request.

Jans is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
