BRITTON, S.D. (AP) - A Britton-Hecla student faces firearm charges after an accidental shooting at a school parking lot.
Dusty Groom, age 18, was showing other students what he thought was an unloaded a .22 caliber handgun when it went off and hit another teenager in the head about 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Marshall County Sheriff's Office says the injured teenager is recovering at a Fargo hospital.
The Sheriff's Office says they are not releasing the name of the injured teenager because he's a minor.
Groom is facing charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm on school property and false reporting to police.
Groom is expected to make a court appearance on May 20.
The incident remains under investigation.
