Attorney General warns of scam using bogus Wal-Mart emails

5/17/13

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is warning consumers to
watch for emails that claim to be from the Walmart Corporation, but are
actually scams designed to obtain information.

The Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division has received
many examples of these email messages from across the state. They
claim that a recent purchase from walmart-dot-com was being processed
and shipped to another address.

The goal appears to be to get you to bogus websites to gather personal
information.

Jackley says you should avoid unsolicited emails and the links that are
attached.

There are also reportedly emails that are causing issues for some
computers -- clicking on links have caused some devices to lock up.

If you have been a victim of one of these scams or need any additional
information contact the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division
at 1-800-300-1986.
