Brookings man arrested for assaulting woman and her toddler

A Brookings man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a toddler
and the baby's mother.
It happened about 3:30 Thursday afternoon when police were called to
the 700 block of 13th St. West.
Police Lt. Derrick Powers says a woman reported a man she lived
with had assaulted both her and her 18-month old child. She says
the man hit the child on the leg with a television remote control and
when she told him not to harm the child, he shoved the remote in
her mouth.
The man also claimed he would harm the child if the woman called
the police. She called and the man left.
Police located his vehicle at another residence and the 38-year-old
Brookings man was placed under arrest on two counts of simple 
The 21-year-old Brookings woman had some bleeding in the mouth 
area, the child had a red mark on his leg.
