Damaged tree workshop set for Watertown

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A workshop will be held Thursday in Watertown to help South Dakotans deal with trees damaged in recent wind storms.

South Dakota Community Forester Richard Mayko says a June storm left hundreds of trees broken, damaged or uprooted.

Mayko says the workshop will help people decide whether damaged trees are worth saving. People also will get advice on techniques for pruning and repairing trees.

Mayko says homeowners buying replacement trees should get them from reputable local nurseries to make sure they are not infested with disease or pests.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Watertown Regional Extension Center. It is being hosted by the state Agriculture Department's Division of Resource Conservation and Forestry and the Watertown Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
