Mother of 3 children killed in fire pleads guilty to drug charge

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A Sioux Falls woman charged with drug possession and child neglect after a December fire that killed her three children has pleaded guilty to the drug charge.

Thirty-five-year-old Rhiannon White also entered an Alford plea to a charge of child neglect on Thursday. An Alford plea lets a defendant maintain innocence while admitting that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict.

Other charges against White were dropped as a part of the plea deal.

Judge Bradley Zell says he will take time to review the child neglect charge to see if it is applicable.

The Dec. 22 fire killed 6-year-old Alivia Coon, 12-year-old Savannah Coon and 16-year-old Michael Hensley.

Authorities say White tested positive for methamphetamine, ecstasy and marijuana when she was taken to the emergency room after the fire.
