STATE AMATEUR…Tony Viger allowed one run on 10 hits, seven walks and struck out seven as Salem got by Clark 2-1 in opening round play of the state B amateur baseball tournament .  Viger and Mitch McNary each had three hits for the Cubs, who played error-free defense.
   Dell Rapids PBR defeated Martin 11-0.  Landon Klock hit the tournament’s first home run, and led Blue Ribbon at the plate with four RBI on 3-for-5 hitting, while Dan Conrad was also 3-for-4 with two RBI.  Three pitchers combined on a three-hitter.
   Winner-Colome scored the game-winning run on an error in the bottom of the ninth, edging the Milbank Firechiefs 2-1.  Derek Graesser doubled and singled for Winner-Colome, which will face Lesterville on Sunday in the second round.  Travis Lester doubled and singled, and Mike Paulson and Matt Stephan each had two hits for Milbank.
   Lesterville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, then took the lead for good on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth, claiming a 4-3 victory over the Parkston Rock Bass.  Tyler Edler and Macon Oplinger, a pickup player from Menno, each had two hits at the top of the Lesterville batting order. Cody Ulmer tripled and Darrin Svacina scored two runs.  

LEGION REGIONAL…Eden Prairie, Minn., scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to stop Rapid City Post 22 5-2 on Thursday in the first round of the Central Plains Regional American Legion Baseball Tournament at Fargo, N.D.
   Post 22 pitcher Jake Sullivan allowed just one run on four hits through seven innings before Eden Prairie’s offense came alive with five hits in the eighth inning.
   The loss dropped Post 22 into the loser’s bracket as they will face Fargo Post 2 today. Eden Prairie remains in the championship bracket and will face Burnsville, Minn., tonight at 7 p.m. Burnsville defeated Fargo on Thursday 7-3.

BHS KEY DATES…The Brookings High School Activities office has released its list of upcoming key dates.  Athletes who participate on high school teams will not be permitted to practice until they have submitted proof of a 2013 SDHSAA Physical Examination. Forms are available at Brookings Activities Office or on the school Website.

BHS ACTIVITY PASSES…All activity passes for Brookings K-12 students will need to be purchased at the high school. Activity passes for 9-12 grades should be purchased prior to their photo ID on registration day. Student Activity prices are as follows:

   All K-12 activity tickets will be available on Tuesday, August 13th as scheduled: Seniors (8:00am-9:30am); Juniors (9:30am-11:00am); Sophomores (11:00am-12:30pm); Freshman (1:15pm-3:00pm) in the BHS Auxiliary Gym. After registration, they will be available at the BHS Activities Office.

YOUTH FOOTBALL…It is still not too late to register for the 2013 Brookings Youth Football Season. Practice starts Monday, August 12th at 6:00pm at the Medary Elementary Fields. A registration table will be set at practice for those that have yet to register. Registration will also be available during equipment checkout on Wednesday, August 14th from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Park& Rec Gymnasium located at 221 Main Avenue.
   Participation in the Brookings Youth Football program is open to any child that will be in the 3-6 grade this fall. The registration fee for the 2013 season is $70. More information may be found on the BYF website at

GFP LICENSE DEADLINES…Paper applications for the 2013 Antelope, Custer State Park Antelope, and Tundra Swan Seasons must be postmarked by Friday, August 9th.
   Electronic applications must be submitted by Wednesday, August 14 by 8 am CDT.
   Second draw deadlines for the Fall Turkey and West River Deer Seasons are:
Paper - Friday, August 16th
Electronically - Wednesday, August 21.
