SDSU SOCCER…The South Dakota State soccer team will open the fall season Friday night, hosting the University of Winnipeg in a 6:00pm exhibition match at Fishback Soccer Park.
   Head coach Lang Wedemeyer says last season was frustrating, but four straight wins to close the season planted the seeds for 2013.  97621   :16   “impacts this season”.
   The official season opener is next week against Iowa State.  Wedemeyer says Denver will be a bittersweet addition to the Summit League.  97622   :14   “the league title”.
   Oakland and Kansas City are now out of the Summit League – Oakland went to the Horizon and Kansas City to the Big Sky.

VIVERITO-FCS…Despite all the realignments and shuffling in BCS football, Missouri Valley Football Conference commissioner Patty Viverito says the FCS is alive and well.
   For the second time in three years, the FCS playoff field has been expanded – this time from 20 to 24 teams.  97623   :18   “playoffs…really important”.
   Viverito says the expanded bracket means changes in selection criteria, and process.  97624   :41   “seed the field”.
   Viverito says the NCAA’s rebranding the division to make it more family friendly.  97625   :41   “discipline and teamwork”.
   South Dakota State head coach John Stiegelmeier says his team’s goal is to qualfy as one of the top six teams in the field.
