MADISON, S.D. (AP) - Construction is getting underway on a $37 million hospital in Madison.
Officials broke ground Thursday evening for the project that Madison Community Hospital CEO Tammy Miller calls "a visionary thing." The facility will include state-of-the-art equipment and expanded services.
Crews will arrive at the 22-acre site on Monday to begin about 1 1/2 years of work. The new hospital is scheduled to open in May 2015.
The independent hospital and attached clinic in the city of about 6,600 people will replace a facility that is more than a half century old.
