WATERTOWN, S.D. (AP) - Watertown jurors watched a videotaped police interview of a man standing trial on charges he killed his girlfriend's daughter.
Jay Barse, of Watertown, is charged with second-degree murder in the March death of 14-month-old Serenity Seaboy.
On the tape, the 26-year-old says the infant cried all the time and was being fussy that day.
Barse says he walked up behind the toddler while she sat on the living room floor and struck her with his fist in the back of her head as he went by.
He says she fell forward and began crying and he then gave her a bottle and put her in her bed.
Barse sobbed in the courtroom Thursday as he watched the interview.
Serenity was the daughter of Barse's girlfriend, Sherry Scherer.
