Someone messes with the mail in Brookings

by Perry Miller

Brookings police are trying to figure out who tampered with the U.S.
Mail at several locations in town.
Lt. Derrick Powers says they were notified at about 7:45 Tuesday
morning that several pieces of mail were on the ground outside a
residence on the 1900 block of 17th Ave. S. They were from several
different addresses and some of the mail had been opened.
An officer on patrol found mail scattered at several other locations
in that general area.
Powers says it appears the mail had been taken from residential
mailboxes from several locations. They include the 1100 block of
Squire Court, the 1700 block of Cypress Point, 1100 block of
Christine, 1700 block of Tory Pines, 1800 block of Moriarty Circle,
1600 block of Moriarty Drive, 1900 block of Spyglass Hill, and the
2200 block of 16th Ave. S.
There was both outgoing and incoming mail. It probably happened
sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
Powers says the mail that was found has been turned over to the
Post Office.
