A Brookings woman is facing charges for allegedly biting a police
officer and resisting arrest.

Lt. Derrick Powers says an officer on patrol shortly before 2:00 o'clock
this morning spotted a woman fighting with a man near the intersection
of 3rd Street and Main. The woman was pulling the man's hair; he said
he was trying to calm her down and get her home.

As the officer interviewed people at the scene, the woman began
yelling and grabbing him.  She was arrested but resisted, and was
handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car.

She somehow freed herself from the cuffs and began kicking the
car door.

She was removed from the car and continued to fight, biting an
officer twice on the wrist.  She was cuffed again and taken to jail.
The officer did not require medical treatment.

The 23-year-old woman is charged with assaulting a law enforcement
officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
