PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota has its fifth certified fire investigator.
Deputy fire marshal Steve Harford, who is stationed in Clear Lake, has earned the accreditation from the International Association of Arson Investigators.
State Fire Marshal Paul Merriman says Harford has made a strong commitment to improve his professional skills and stay abreast of changes in the field. Merriman says considerable time and work is required just to qualify to take the test.
Harford has been with the state fire marshal's office for 30 years.
The International Association of Arson Investigators describes the certified fire investigator program as "a standard measure of an individual's competence in all phases of fire investigation."
