Brookings police are investigating a Thursday morning incident that
involved a short vehicle pursuit.

Lt. Derrick Powers says an officer on patrol spotted a Ford Crown Vic
speeding from Seventh St. onto First Ave.  This was shortly after
2:00 a.m.

The officer activated his warning lights but the car did not stop. At one
point, the car drove straight at the stopped patrol car and nearly collided
with it.

The officer lost sight of the car. A short time later, a resident of the 600
block of First Ave. called to report a suspicious vehicle in the parking
lot that appeared to have been in an accident.

Police responded and found the same Crown Vic. It had struck a parked
moped, causing minimal damage. The car had been abandoned and
it was towed away.

At about 8:00 o'clock that morning, the owner of the car called police and
reported it had been stolen from the Days Inn.

Powers says they are looking for video from businesses near the Days
Inn and are receiving other information as well that is helping their
investigation.
