A Flandreau man is killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday about 12 miles south of
Brookings on Interstate 29.

It happened about 5:30 p.m.  A car driven by 81-year-old Leslie James Schrecengost
was in the southbound driving lane.  A pickup driven by 48-year-old William Carl Dixon
of Estill Springs, Tennesse was also southbound, also in the driving lane.

A preliminary investigation indicates Schrecengost's vehicle may have been moving
slowly.  Dixon's pickup hit the backend of the car and rolled, coming to rest in the
driving lane.

Schrecengost's vehicle was forced into the west ditch and came to rest at the bottom
of the off-ramp. Schrecengost  was not wearing a seatbelt and died of injuries from
the crash.

Dixon and a passenger were wearing seatbelts and received minor injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
