Brookings faces a challenge Saturday afternoon at Sioux Falls O’Gorman:  97631   :18   “stay on them”.

Eight different players scored for Brookings, including Corey Roach, who scored three times for the hat trick. Roach also had two assists for the Rangers.
Brookings goalie Tristin Kuehn saved all seven shots he faced for the shutout.

HURON GBB…The Huron girls basketball team is looking for continued improvement this year after winning four games last season. The Tigers struggled with injuries throughout last year, and head coach Al Steffen says the top goal this year is simply to stay healthy.  97621   :11   “so good”.
Calla Rounds is the only senior on the roster, but Steffen says most of the younger players already have varsity experience.  97622   :16   “every day”.
Steffen is beginning his seventh year as head coach in Huron. The Tigers open the season in Harrisburg Saturday night.

SV BBB…The Sioux Valley Cossacks begin the season highly regarded in class “A” boys’ basketball around the state.
Freshman guard Tayt Vincent, at 6-3, will draw attention from opponents.  But head coach Bill Vincent says the game has to go through 6-6 senior Spencer Hanson, 6-7 junior Austin Deibert and 6-6 sophomore Collin Kramer in the middle.  Vincent likes how those players matured physically.  97623   :40   “around the basket”.
Vincent says the depth is there for the Cossacks to have balanced scoring – opposing defenses may have to pick their poison with Sioux Valley.  97624   :28   “and horse shots”.
Vincent says the Cossacks have the ability to adjust lineups to match what opponents are doing.
He says the new regional post-season format adds a sense of urgency to each game.
97625   :23   “things, as well”.
Sioux Valley basketball coach Bill Vincent.

SV GBB…Sioux Valley girls’ basketball coach Leah Pitts has a great starting point this season.
Four seniors return from last year’s team that reached the district finals.  There’s height inside, and three guards who each made at least 50 three-pointers.  So how will the Cossacks’ offense work?  97626   :28   “shooters, as well”.
Sioux Valley ran a deliberate, half-court offense at times last year, and transitioned at others.  Pitts says Sioux Valley will get the ball out and go.  97627   :27   “case this year”.
Sioux Valley will be challenged early, with games against Clark/Willow Lake, DeSmet, and Arlington.  Pitts says Clark/Willow Lake’s the team to watch in the region, but says Sioux Valley will compete.  97628   :10   “teams early on”.
Sioux Valley girls’ basketball coach Leah Pitts.
