Man injured, dog killed after being hit by car

A Brookings man is injured and his dog is killed when they're hit by a car.

The Brookings County Sheriff's Department says it happened shortly before
six o'clock Wednesday evening on 209th Street, just east of the I-29 overpass.

A car driven by 18-year-old Kara Robbins of Aurora was eastbound and struck
59-year-old David Clay and his dog.  Clay was walking his dog on the south
side of 209th. 

Clay was taken to the hospital for treatment of a broken ankle. The dog did
not survive.

The accident is under investigation.
