Pierre teen accused of killing classmate is out on bond

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A Pierre teen accused of killing a classmate has been released from jail.

KCCR-AM reports a judge granted a defense request Monday to release 17-year-old Braiden McCahren on bond and he was released that afternoon.

Authorities say 10 percent of the $250,000 bond was posted for him.

McCahren pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other charges in the shooting death last Dec. 18 of 16-year-old Dalton Williams in McCahren's home.

McCahren was 16 and has been in custody without bond for more than a year.

He'll be under house arrest at his grandparents' home in Vermillion and attend high school classes online offered by an alternative school in Vermillion.

McCahren's still waiting to find out whether his case will be handled in juvenile or adult court.
