Sioux Falls woman killed by alleged drunken driver

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Family and friends gathered Wednesday night for a candlelight vigil to remember a Sioux Falls woman authorities say died after a crash caused by a suspected drunken driver over the New Year's holiday.

Thirty-eight-year-old Tanya Sanchez was a mother of six. Authorities say she was a passenger in a van that was struck by a Jeep about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, and died at a hospital from her injuries.

Husband Nigel Sanchez was driving the van. He and a second passenger suffered minor injuries.

Police say the 20-year-old man driving the Jeep went through a flashing red stop light at an intersection. He was arrested on drunken driving and vehicular homicide charges.
