Former Dakota Wesleyan basketball player on trial for rape

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - A former Dakota Wesleyan University basketball player accused of raping a female student on campus is on trial in Mitchell.

Kristopher Wilson pleaded not guilty earlier to a charge of felony third-degree rape that carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

The woman who said she was raped testified Wednesday that Wilson had sex with her while she was passed out drunk in January 2013.

Defense attorney Phil Carlson told the jury during his opening statement earlier in the day that there are holes in the evidence.

The Associated Press does not identify people who might be victims of sexual assault.
