SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Five couples who sued the state of South Dakota and the city of Sioux Falls over flooded homes four years ago are in court seeking damages from the state.
The families say the state and city failed to protect their homes from Spring Creek floodwaters in southeast Sioux Falls in summer 2010 after heavy rain.
The city settled with the families last November. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. The families are in court this week seeking damages from the state, which maintains it isn't responsible for the freak flooding.
The trial is expected to last the rest of the week.
