SDSU BASEBALL…The South Dakota State baseball team racked up a season-high 18 hits in Wednesday’s 11-9 victory over Baldwin Wallace (Ohio).
The Jackrabbits ended the first leg of their Spring Break trip with a 3-3 record in Florida.
Aaron Machbitz went 4-5 at the plate, Jake Ratz went 3-for-5. Zach Coppola also went 3-for-5, while Scott Splett, Sam Pack and Zach Holt each tallied two hits.
Freshman Ryan Froom was credited with his first collegiate victory after pitching three innings in relief. He allowed two runs on three hits, but did not walk or strike out a batter. J-D Moore’s save was his second of the season.
Four different players notched two hits for Baldwin Wallace, which finished the game with 14 hits.
SDSU is scheduled to complete its spring break trip with a three-game weekend series at Creighton (Neb.). The series opener is slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha.

STATE HOCKEY…The state boys’ varsity hockey tournament begins a three-day run Friday at Larson Ice Center in Brookings. The first round pairings, in the order they appear on the bracket:

PARKER TO ALABAMA…Brookings Blizzard defenseman Brandon Parker has committed to play at the University of Alabama-Huntsville next season.
Parker is in his third season with the Blizzard and has seen his role with the team increase each season. He has played in 53 games with the Blizzard this season and has recorded 28 points with 8 goals and 20 assists.
His 28 points is good for fourth on the team in points and leads all defenseman. He also ranks 11th in the NAHL in scoring among defenseman.
This is the third season with the Blizzard organization. In 2011-12 he had 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 15 games in Alexandria. Last season he played in 26 games and had 11 points with 2 goals and 9 assists.
Parker represented the Blizzard on team Central at the NAHL Top Prospects tournament in Troy, MI. He was also named the Easton Hockey NAHL Defenseman of the Month for the month of December when he had 11 points in 9 games for the Blizzard.
The University of Alabama-Huntsville is a NCAA Division I program and competes as a member of the WCHA (Western Collegiate Hockey Association).
SDSU WR BID…South Dakota State’s Joe Brewster has received an at-large bid to the 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Brewster, who is 22-14 on the year, will join NCAA West Region/WWC Championship automatic qualifiers Alex Kocer and Cody Pack.
Prior to this season, SDSU has never sent more than one qualifiers to the NCAA championship.
Brewster went 1-2 at last weekend's conference tournament, as he majored Northern Colorado's Charlie McMartin, 12-3 before losing back-to-back matches to Dakota Friesth (Wyoming) and Curtis Cook (Utah Valley).
Pack and Kocer both went 2-0 after receiving first-round byes en route to their conference titles.
AUGIE AD SEARCH…Three finalists have been selected for the Athletic Director position at Augustana College and will participate in on-campus interviews starting next week.
The finalists include Dr. Dustin Smith, athletic director at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, Jon Schemmel, Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Development at the University of South Dakota and Slade Larscheid, Activities Director at Roosevelt High School.
The three candidates will be on campus starting next Tuesday for interviews with the search committee, college administration and athletic staff.
Smith will be on campus on Tuesday, March 18, Schemmel on Wednesday, March 19 and Larscheid on Monday, March 24.
The candidate chosen will succeed Bill Gross, who announced last year he would step down.
