PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Legislature's budget-writing committee is starting to put the finishing touches on next year's state budget.
The Joint Appropriations Committee will meet Thursday to consider a long list of proposed amendments to the bill. The committee needs to finish work on the spending measure so the House and Senate can pass it Friday, the final day of the main run of this year's legislative session.
The budget will spend about $4.3 billion in state, federal and other funds. The Appropriations Committee will mainly consider changes to the portion of the budget that spends nearly $1.4 billion from state tax collections and other state general funds.
