A number of people in the area are reporting calls to their cellphones late last
night and early this morning from a restricted number. Those who answered
say the calls claimed to be reporting a stolen or hacked MasterCard.

An alert has been issued on this scam

Attorney General Marty Jackley is warning South Dakota consumers to be
cautious of robocalls targeting consumers with a scam that implies that their
MasterCard has been locked or suspended.

It's an attempt to obtain the credit card number.

Jackley says consumers should refrain from giving out any personal information
and to hang up without pressing any numbers.

If you believe you are a victim of this scam or need any additional information
contact the South Dakota Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-300-1986.
Anyone who has given out personal financial information should contact their
financial institution immediately.
