Intruders crash Brookings homes

by Perry Miller

It was Pub Crawl weekend in Brookings and police report no major problems.

There were two strikingly similar reports of people finding unknown men in
their homes.

Both occurred Saturday morning. Lt. Derrick Powers says the first was reported
about 2:20 a.m. on the 800 block of Fifth Street.  The resident called to report
an intruder. He heard noises in the house and found an unknown man walking up
the stairs. He told the man he had the wrong house. The intruder told the resident
that he was the one who needed to leave. The resident called police. They arrived
and arrested the 23-year-old Sioux Falls man for illegal entry and disorderly conduct.

At about 7:30 Saturday morning, a resident of the 500 block of Fifth Street
called police to report an unknown man asleep on his couch. This intruder had
broken the glass in a back door to gain entry, had taken off some of his clothes,
and went to sleep. Police found him, still on the couch, and arrested the
23-year-old Brookings man for intentional damage to property and illegal entry.
