Standing Rock Reservation praying for accident victims
MCLAUGHLIN, S.D. (AP) - A spokesman for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe says the crash of a sport utility vehicle carrying five students and two teachers from the McLaughlin School District has been a shock to the reservation.
D.J. Two Bears says that people throughout the reservation straddling the South Dakota-North Dakota border have been praying for those hurt in the Monday crash on icy Interstate 25 in Colorado.
The SUV was returning from a class trip to a powwow in Denver. Five eighth-grade students and two teachers were hurt and taken to hospitals. Everett Jamerson is related to one of the students. He says that support from the community is helping him and other family members.
