Tea bond issue fails by TWO votes

TEA, S.D. (AP) - Voters in the Tea School District appear to have narrowly rejected a school bond issue for the third time in less than a year.

Unofficial results show the $9.9 million measure to add 14 elementary school classrooms and build a 614-seat performing arts center failing on Tuesday by just two votes.

An $11 million bond measure failed in September, and a $10.5 million proposal was rejected in December. Both of those votes also were close.

Supporters of building say crowding is a problem in the southeastern South Dakota school district, but opponents say proposed additions are a waste of money.
