A Brookings teen is arrested after crashing a stolen car during a
police pursuit.

Brookings Police Lt. Derrick Powers says it ended after a short
chase by the University Police Department at about 11:30 Monday
night. The stolen 1996 Nissan 300Z was driven into a tree in the
area of 8th St. and 9th Ave.

An investigation led to the residence of the registered owner of the
Nissan. However, the owner was working out of town. He was able
to supply police with the name of a possible suspect.

That was a 15-year-old male who lived nearby.  Police determined
he had entered the residence, taken the keys and stolen the vehicle.
He was checked out by a Brookings ambulance crew for a head
injury received in the accident and cleared. He was then taken into
custody.

Powers says charges are pending.
