STATE "A" TEENER… Tyndall defeated Dell Rapids 6-0 in the Championship game of the 2014 State A VFW tournament in Volga. Tyndall broke open the game scoring four runs in the top of the third inning and held Dells scoreless en route to the championship game.
Chase Kortan threw a complete game shut out and added a pair of doubles to lead Tyndall in the Championship game. Hunter Young and Zach Sutera each had a double.
Ty Hoglund led Dell Rapids with a double and a single. Hoglund took the loss on the mound allowing five runs over 2 1/3 innings. Eric Klein and Nate McKee each hit a single.

Vermillion took 3rd place at the 2014 State A VFW baseball tourney defeating Volga by a score of 9-5. Vermillion overcame an early 2-0 deficit and then held off a seventh inning rally.
Billy Mount earned the win for Vermillion pitching five innings allowing two runs. Mount also had three hits and scored two runs. Brett Hansen and Brandon Mockler had two hits each for Vermillion.
Cole Gross took the loss for Volga allowing four earned runs over 2 1/3 innings. Collin Kramer had a pair of hits for Volga.
Tyndall defeated Volga 9-0 Saturday in the semifinals. Volga posted a 7-6 win over Groton Friday in the tournament opener.

SDGA MEN’S GOLF…Jesse Talcott of Sioux Falls shot a third straight round under 70, shooting a 69 on Sunday, to score a three-stroke victory in the South Dakota Golf Association’s Men’s Amateur Championship, Sunday at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
Talcott shot a three-day score of 199 on his home course, beating Max Donohue of Sioux Falls. Drew Trautman of Clear Lake closed at 211.
Former Freeman standout Arron Lickteig won the first flight title, shooting a final round 67 to finish at 212 and win by two strokes. Brad Jacobson of Watertown won the second flight at 217.
Ben Rogers of Sioux Falls shot a 220 to win the third flight. Russell Pick of Chamberlain won the fourth flight at 230, with Brian Berkenhoff of Brookings at 239 and Adolph Shepardson at 247.

SDGA WOMEN’S GOLF…South Dakota State’s Hallie Getz beat teammate Megan Mingo by five strokes for top honors in the South Dakota Golf Association’s Women’s Amateur Championships, which concluded on Sunday at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford.
Getz shot a three-day score of 225 (76-73-76) to beat Mingo (79-76-75), who tied Karla Cotton of Sioux Falls for low round on Sunday. Cotton and Julie Jansa, also of Sioux Falls, tied for third at 233. Lauren Fitts shot a 237, with Dani Selberg at 240.
Mae Meierhenry of Sioux Falls won the first flight at 241, two shots ahead of Kali Trautman of Clear Lake. Parkston’s Sydney Weber shot 247. USD’s Jordan Rearick and Kylie Gaughenbaugh shot 251 and 252.
Alex Merry of Sioux Falls won the second flight at 256, edging out USD’s Victoria Grasso by one stroke.
Patty Coddington of Sioux Falls won the senior championship with a two-day score of 162. Patty Even of Hartford won the second flight (177), with Rosalie Groon of Sioux Falls winning the third flight (196).
