Former prosecutor pleads not guilty to child rape

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A former South Dakota county prosecutor has pleaded not guilty to child rape charges.

Former Walworth County State's Attorney Christopher Jansen on Tuesday entered his plea at the federal court in Pierre.

Jansen was indicted last week on one count each of sexual exploitation of a child and distribution of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors. A trial has been scheduled for Oct. 21.

Prosecutors accuse the 34-year-old Selby resident of molesting a boy from Hughes County. Court records show Jansen did legal work for some of the family members.

Jansen last week was also indicted in state court in Hughes County on six counts of first-degree rape.

Jansen is being held at the Hughes County Jail.
