YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - Residents of the Yankton School District
have defeated a proposal to opt out of the state property tax
freeze, while voters in the Tripp-Delmont School District have
approved such as move.
Tuesday's vote in Yankton was 66 percent opposed and 34 percent
in favor. Turnout was high, at nearly 57 percent. The opt-out would have
generated an additional $4.1 million per year for the school district.
Residents of the Tripp-Delmont district approved continuing an
opt-out of $300,000 a year for seven years. The vote was 83 percent
in favor and 17 percent opposed.
