A 6-year-old boy from Bruce is hurt in a Wednesday afternoon four-wheeler accident. According to the Brookings County Sheriff's Department, it happened southwest of Bruce on 463rd Avenue.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene shortly after 3:00 p.m. An 8-year-old boy was operating the 4-wheeler. Without their father's knowledge, the 6-year-old got on the vehicle and the two drove off the property. The older boy rolled the 4-wheeler in the ditch, trapping the 6-year-old.
The father was able to get it off him before EMS arrived. The boy was taken to the hospital by Brookings Ambulance and then airlifted to Sioux Falls. His condition is not known.
Names have not been released.
The sheriff's office is investigating.
